AffiliateIt is true that just about anyone can achieve success with affiliate programs, however, not everyone manages to. If that sounds like you, you could be hindered by mistakes which are commonly made in affiliate marketing. Knowing what those mistakes are and how you can avoid them is essential to developing a prosperous business. I can’t cover them all, but here are some basics and common issues I find.

Let’s start with a very common one:” I have FIVE websites and none of them are making me any money!”

If you review why you’re not making any money, it just might turn out that it is because you’re spreading yourself too thin.

In my experience, I’ve never had success getting more than one website to work for me at a time, especially if I’ve yet to get the “1st” website making money before the “2nd” one.

If you’re putting the cart before the horse, it can cause you one big headache. So, choose a single affiliate product and stay with it from start-up to profit.  Once it is making a reasonable profit, then, do your research and join another affiliate program. Diversification comes after you have established that you can and are already making money online.

Not investing in Proper Education is one of the common mistakes that many new affiliate marketers make – They believe that they can pick up everything they need to know about affiliate marketing by trial-and-error. Unfortunately, this can lead to frustration and disillusionment.

There are plenty of guides (eBooks, step-by-step videos as well as audios) that will show you how you can get started. Reviewing these guides, not only will you cut short your learning curve, you will also avoid the most common pitfalls which many people make.

A little extra time spent on the front end will help you generate a full-time income on the Internet much faster (compared to those who learn through trial-and-error).

I mentioned research above- often we don’t take the time to research and we choose the wrong program. When it comes to choosing affiliate programs, choose the ones that have a generous commission structure, and most importantly that pay their affiliates easily and on time.

Now, you want to choose affiliate products that fit in with your target audience. Choose a niche that is in your “wheel house”! And, check the profitability of that niche.

Supply and Demand- choosing programs that offer products that might not interest people means no commission or money for you—make sure there is a demand. Supply- if you join a program that offers products that are too popular, you will be competing with thousands of others who are promoting the same product.

Endurance. Don’t believe that affiliate marketing is a “get rich quick” scheme. It is not. You must invest a certain level of commitment, a lot of time, some financial resources at times, and some effort if you want to truly realize the many wonderful things that the affiliate marketing promises. Treating your affiliate business as a real business is important. Super affiliates that earn $20,000 a month took years to get to that point- just like any successful business. Research a program before signing up. Commit to stick it out. If they offer guides and training take advantage of it. Update and maintain your site with fresh contents. Stay the course and don’t jump ship when the going gets tough.
